Performances of Rain Worthington’s compositions have spanned the globe from Brazil to Iceland to Armenia, with premieres in Tokyo, Oxford University, and the Delhi Music Society in India. Her catalog includes works for orchestra, mixed chamber ensembles, violin duo, solo marimba and even a miniature for oud. Self-taught in composition, Rain says impulses for new pieces have ranged from the sounds of “NYC garbage trucks backing up late in the night, to the two-note expression of a sigh, to a dream of a careening bike ride through dark fog.”

Recent highlights include two composer residencies and premieres of her orchestral works, Tracing a Dream and In Passages by the Missouri State University Symphony and the release of her solo CD of orchestral music, Dream Vapors. PARMA Recordings recorded In Passages October 2017 with Miran Vaupotic conducting the Croatian Chamber Orchestra to be released in early 2019. in 2018 In Passages was premiered in Italy by I Soloisti Veneti conducted by Claudio Scimone, and in Brazil at the Encontro Internacional de Cordas festival. Following her performances in South Korea, violinist, Moonkyung Lee recorded Jilted Tango for her Parts To Play CD.

Dream Vapors - selected works for orchestra, on Navona Records offers a selection of her orchestral works, presenting intense dreams, intangible perceptions, and musically evocative elaborations. Worthington’s orchestral works often juxtapose opposing emotional states to form vulnerable gestures of tension and harmony.

Her works have been featured at the PARMA Music Festival, Festival of Women Composers of Hartford, the SCI National Conference, the Eastman Women in Music Festival, and the Missouri State University Composition Festival. Articles and reviews have appeared in the American Record Guide, IAWM Journal, Chamber Music magazine, Fanfare, MusicWeb-International and Gapplegate Classical-Modern Music Review.

Worthington has received the American Prize Ernst Bacon award and grants from Meet The Composer, ASCAP, American Music Center, NYFA, and American Composers Forum, and serves as Artistic Administrator/Composer Advocate for the New York Women Composers.

The composer has directed that her Artist’s proceeds from purchases of the Dream Vapors album be donated through PARMA Recordings to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund (a research 501(c)(3) public charity registered under the name, Alzheimer’s Disease Research Foundation).
